MTG Expansion Symbols

I designed and created the expansion symbol — the symbol that appears on every Magic card to let you know which set it is from — for several Magic the Gathering sets between 2013 and 2017. These expansion symbols have to be immediately identifiable even when extremely small, work in a variety of colors indicating rarity, and be unique so as to stand apart from all the other sets.

For the “Mind verses Might” set, which features the clash of two powerful heroines, I merged the celtic markings from one heroine’s axe (the “might”) and the tips of the other heroine’s forceps (the “mind”) into a unique symbol.

For Ixalan and Rivals of Ixalan, which are sets about pirates looking for a hidden city of gold, my symbol played off of compass rose navigation and nods to their golden tower.
